The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, reaffirmed on Sunday their commitment to advance in the Railway project of Uzbekistan-Affanistan-Pakistan (UAP) on Sunday, qualifying it as a vital step to improve regional connectivity.

In a telephone conversation, the two ministers stressed the strategic importance of the proposed rail corridor and agreed to work closely for the early completion of their framework agreement, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan.

Muttaqi welcomed Pakistan’s decision to improve diplomatic relations with Kabul at the ambassador level and confirmed that Afghanistan would correspond to the measure.

He described the decision as a “positive development” for bilateral ties.

The conversation also served as a monitoring of the visit to give Kabul on April 19, 2025.

Both parties reviewed the implementation of key decisions taken during that trip and reiterated their shared commitment to strengthen mutual trust and cooperation.

Last month, Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to guarantee the dignified and orderly repatriation of undocumented Afghan nationals, amid tensions about the Islamabad deportation campaign.

The two parties also reached consensus on the improvement of regional economic ties through initiatives such as the Power Casa-1000 project and the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan transnational railroad.
