The world of sport was stunned on Sunday night when John Brenkus’s family, the “Sports Sciences” presenter, which was seen during ESPN segments, announced his death on social networks.
Brenkus was 54 years old.

A statement published on its social media page said Brenkus “lost his fight” with depression at the end of the month.
“It is with a deep sadness that we share the news that John Brenkus had died,” reads the statement. “John, co -founder of Base Productions, founder of Brinx.tv, and cooker and host of the 6 -time winner of the ‘Sport Science’ award, had been fighting depression.
“John lost his fight with this terrible disease on May 31, 2025. His disconsolate family and friends request privacy at this time and encourages anyone who is fighting with depression to seek help.”

Brenkus’s death resonated on social networks.
Brenkus had been open about his battle with his mental health problems. He spoke with former NFL star Marcellus Wiley about his descending spiral after selling “sports sciences” to ESPN.
The segments of “Sports Science” became a great success during the “Sportscent” of ESPN at the end of the 2000s and mid -2010. The segment showed the impact on the bodies of the athletes of great hits and other instances during the games.
