The Ethereum Foundation has fired some members of its research and development team as part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at re -focusing the critical challenges of protocol design, the organization said in a blog post on Monday.
The shaking occurs when the non -profit organization based in Switzerland fights with continuous criticism about its strategic management and direction. Some in the Ethereum community have warned for more than a year that the fact that not addressing key technical obstacles could threaten Ethereum’s state as industry leader, and the organization has already undergone leadership changes in part to address these concerns.
The Foundation Change brand its protocol research and development division under the simplified “protocol” name, and is repositioning the group around three main priorities: climbing the Ethereum base layer, expanding Blobspace (a key part of its data availability strategy) and improving the user experience.
“The changes we announce today are a deviation from our previous ways of working, but we believe that they establish us in a more receptive and effective path,” said the foundation in its publication.
The EF did not reveal how many employees were affected by the dismissals. “[S]PR&D members will not continue with the Ethereum Foundation, “said the blog.” We hope these people continue in the Ethereum ecosystem and encourage others who build their teams to look for them. ”
A spokesman for the Foundation did not respond to a request for comments.
The restructured protocol team will serve as a center for basic development efforts of Ethereum, with the aim of improving public visibility in update deadlines, technical documentation and research.
“We hope that this new structure will enable our internal teams to concentrate more clearly and drive the key initiatives forward,” said Hsiao-Wei Weng, executive director of the EF in a publication on X.
