Expressing concern for an alarming figure of 92 deaths due to the drowning registered in Punjab during the past month, the Secretary of Emergency Services, Dr. Rizwan Naseer, has appealed to citizens to guarantee safety precautions while visiting recreational water sites during EID holidays.

When reviewing the performance of the emergency service in all districts during May, it emphasized the importance of strictly following all security measures, especially while swimming or other water activities.

He advised people who do not enter the water or address a boat without using life jackets and avoid overload to avoid overturning.

The provincial secretary urged all citizens to guarantee security precautions while visiting recreational sites during the warm climate.

He also advised people who do not enter the water without the presence of lifeguards, who wear life jackets while walking and staying aware of the ship’s ability to avoid drowning due to the overturning.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government announced on Monday four EID vacations from Friday to June 9.

The data shared at the meeting revealed that 92 people had died in 140 drowning incidents reported on Punjab during May.

Up to 436 people died at 39,978 traffic accidents in the province during the month. Of traffic accidents, 7,384 occurred in Lahore, in which 38 people died, followed by 2,671 in Faisalabad, 2,527 in fine, 2,139 in Gujranwala, 1,491 in Sheikhupura and 1,290 in Bahawalpur. The fire emergency number reported in Lahore was 602, Faisalabad 300, Gujranwala 206, Sialkot 187, Sheikhupura 184 and Rawalpindi 174.

The secretary said that the Department of Emergency Services had rescued 211,354 victims during the month.
