Bahawalpur:
An important route in Bahawalpur has become a virtual drainage of wastewater, causing anguish among residents and asking questions about the integrity of a public project of multimillion -dollar rupees.
Yazman Road, particularly the section in front of the Islami neighborhood, has flooded with stagnant wastewater water due to the failure of a drainage system recently installed.
The resulting fault stench and unhealthy conditions have alarmed residents, who fear a possible outbreak of water transmitted diseases.
According to government sources, the area faced similar sewerage problems almost 18 months ago.
To address the problem, the authorities approved a high -cost development scheme that included the placement of new sewerage pipes and the reconstruction of the road. However, the effort seems to have been in vain.
The Mudassar subgenerator, previously with the Municipal Administration of Tehsil (TMA) and now published in the District Council, revealed that the project was granted to Madina Construction Company, according to reports, owned by Bilal Randhawa, an SDO published in the Department of Public Health.
“The project was defective from the beginning,” Mudassar said. “Even after its completion, wastewater could not flow correctly through the installed pipes. The only reason the system worked temporarily was due to extensive cleaning at that time.”
In addition, he said that little or no attention was paid to critical technical details during the construction process, which led to a complete collapse of the system once again.
The residents of the Isami neighborhood and nearby neighborhoods have expressed frustration for the inaction of local authorities.
“The senior government officers travel daily this route, however, ignore open drain just under their noses,” said a local resident.
Despite the repeated complaints, measures have not been taken against the contractor or public health officials responsible for the failed project.
The locals have appealed to the authorities to intervene immediately. They require not only the urgent repair of the road and the drainage system, but also strict legal actions against officials and contractors responsible for lower quality work.
“The whole area is suffering due to its negligence. We need responsibility, not only broken promises,” added a resident.
