Key infrastructure projects face delays

Rawalpindi:

Two main road infrastructure projects without signals in Rawalpindi, worth more than 6,500 million rupees, have lost their completion deadlines, which caused a significant inconvenience for residents. These include the high step of Nawaz Sharif in Khawaja Corporation Chowk in Adiala Road and underground in Mall Road in KTM Chowk, Mall Plaza and the underground step of pedestrians in Medicine Market.

Although the high step in Khawaja Corporation Chowk has been completed, the work of carpets and beautification remains pending.

Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz had established a deadline of May 31 for completion, but the project remains unfinished. This project only costs RS2.3 billion.

Similarly, the RS4.38 billion underground steps and the Pedestrian Underground Passage project in Mall Road, originally established for its completion in 45 days, remains incomplete even after 100 days. As a result, access to key locations that include hospitals, the Mega Medicine, PIA, state life and acantonation offices have been interrupted.

Zahid Bakhtawari, president of Anjuman Shehriyan Rawalpindi, criticized the delay, says the situation has become unbearable for patients and companies. The promises made to complete the work in 45 days have not been fulfilled.

PML-N MNA of Cantt, Malik Abrar Ahmed, declared that efforts are ongoing to avoid more delays. He stressed that in high -level meetings, the authorities have been aimed at accelerating work. If both projects are completed within the next 15 days, a joint inauguration could be held, waiting for the main minister’s schedule. Although the officials of the C and W department had previously confirmed the deadline of May 31, they are now not willing to comment on the delay.
