Crypto Bitopro, based in Taiwan, has confirmed Coindesk that he suffered a cyber attack in an old hot wallet in May, resulting in losses of more than $ 11 million.
The company said immediately replaced stolen funds and transferred active to new wallets to avoid further losses.
The violation, which occurred on May 8 during an update of the wallet system, was first marked by the blockchain Zachxbt detective. He revealed that stolen funds were washed through decentralized exchanges and privacy protocols before being deposited in Wasabi Wallet, a popular Bitcoin mixer.
“Bitopro recently experienced a cyber attack on an old hot wallet during an update of the wallet system,” shared the exchange with Coindesk. “After the detection, we quickly launched an emergency response, ensuring assets by moving them to new wallets and blocking the attacker.”
The company emphasized that the user’s assets were not affected, with all the deposits, retreats and commercial functions that continue as normal.
“Bitoopro virtual asset reserves are broad, and user assets are not affected,” added a spokesman.
The exchange said he is working with a third -party cybersecurity company to investigate the Hack and will soon publish new hot wallet addresses to improve transparency. He added that most of their assets remain in cold -off -line wallets to protect against similar incidents in the future.
