Islamabad:
The Federal Government has published details of a five -year development plan, Uraan Pakistan, estimated at RS17 billion, whose objective, according to the Federal Minister to plan Ahsan Iqbal, is to make Pakistan economically self -sufficient.
According to the plan, the federal participation will be RS7 billion, while the provinces will contribute with RS10 billion.
Ahsan IQbal said that the objective is to transform Pakistan into an economy of $ 3 billion by 2047. For this, the development budget for the next fiscal year 2025-26 has been established in RS4.2 billion. According to the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), the Government has assigned RS1 billion in federal funds.
The Government has assigned RS33 billion for the Diamer-Bhasha dam; RS35 billion for the Mohmand dam; RS100 billion for the Queta-Karachi road; RS25 billion for the Indo road; RS15 billion for the Autopist Sukkur-Hyderabad and RS10 billion for the K-IV project of Karachi.
In the education sector, the Government has allocated RS9 billion for Danish and RS4.3 billion schools for the Prime Minister’s Skills Program. It has assigned RS1 billion for the treatment of hepatitis C and RS8 billion for diabetes.
The Government has reduced the number of federal projects for the next five years from 1,071 to 800, eliminating inactive and low priority projects. This reduction is expected the Treasury of RS2.73 billion tillion. The federal development portfolio has now limited itself to RS12.8 billion.
The Government has also established national nanotechnology, quantum computing and new industries, establishing the basis for the creation of a ‘quantum valley’ in Pakistan.
According to the report, inflation decreased from 11.8% to 3.5% by May 2025, while the current account surplus reached $ 1.9 billion. Remittances also increased by 31%, reaching a total of $ 31.2 billion and the fiscal deficit decreased from 3.7% to 2.6%
By eliminating unnecessary projects, the Government saved RS5.4 billion alone in April and 27 projects were approved or proposed in May 2025.
The planning minister said that 210 of the 240 PSDP projects have been thoroughly evaluated. Consultations on development associations were carried out with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the World Bank.
