Karachi: At least five firefighters were injured while trying to extinguish a furious fire in a factory in the industrial area of ​​Landhi on Sunday.

The fire exploded in the factory located in the Landhi export processing zone in the early hours of the day, which spread rapidly and wrapped three other nearby factories due to the presence of combustible material there, according to the rescue 1122 officials.

The firefighters suffered wounds after a part of the affected building collapsed, the officials said, and added that he had declared a fire of “third grade.”

Rescue officials said firefighters from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) injured were immediately transferred to the hospital. One of the injured was in critical, added the officials.

They added that there was a stock of clothing, chemicals and other items in the factory, and added that the cause of the fire was not yet determined.

A total of 14 fire tenders, two snorkeling and a Bowser were present at the scene to participate in rescue activities.

The emergency service department said it received fire information at 4:50 am

The fire affected buildings were declared insecure.

The service director told the media that they faced difficulties in the rescue operation due to a dense smoke and a shortage of water.

Last month, a garment factory near Murtaza Chowrangi in Landhi caught fire that destroyed the inventory worth millions of rupees.

The fire suddenly exploded in a several -story factory, and the flames intensified rapidly, which caused an immediate response from the police and rescue equipment.

Firefighters used smoke injectors to ventilate the building and eliminate toxic fumes. After almost three hours of continuous efforts, the fire was controlled.
