- Android 16 is causing problems for some pixels devices
- Navigation buttons and gestures freeze
- Until now, Google has not said anything officially about errors
Android 16 was officially pressed to Pixel owners last week, but the reports are reaching the software update that cause some fairly important errors on certain phones, related to gestures, interface and navigation.
As Android’s headlines pointed out, reports say that certain navigation buttons and gestures do not respond as they should, which means certain operations (such as returning to the previous screen) take seconds to complete, or do not happen at all.
It is not difficult to find users who have problems: in Reddit, we have publications about buttons that do not respond on a Google Pixel 8, sliding without doing anything in a 9 Pro XL pixel and multiple gestures that do not work in a Pixel 6.
In X (previously Twitter), Artem Russakovskii of the Android Police says that the posterior gesture only works intermittently since Android 16 is updated, and there is a screen recording included so that it can see what happens (or rather, it does not happen).
Problems for some
Here is a demonstration of the random setback button that does not work on Android 16. I took an error report and sent it to Google Engineering along with this reproduction screen. With luck, they will solve it. pic.twitter.com/nemifqqrvbJune 14, 2025
While there are numerous online problems reports, these problems clearly do not affect everyone: since Android 16 are updated on my Google Pixel 9 phone, I have not noticed any problem with navigation gestures.
So far, Google has not yet said anything officially about these problems. If you are affected, you can report the error to Google. With so many users now complaining, this will undoubtedly be addressed sooner rather than later.
What makes these errors particularly annoying is that they relate to a fundamental part of the user experience and affect multiple applications and screens. Being able to move on your phone is a fairly fundamental part of use.
Android 16 brings with it a series of useful updates, including a new VIP Pixel function for your favorite contacts, but we are still waiting for the expressive renewal of Big Material 3, which should be at the end of this year.
