Amazon has confirmed plans to invest au $ 20 billion in Australia between 2025 and 2029, with an infrastructure of expanded data centers in Sydney and Melbourne representing a large part of the next plans.
The company says that this multimillionaire commitment is the “worldwide investment of global global technology in Australia.”
In his announcement, Amazon declared his support for the “vision of Australia to improve productivity and grow the economy through AI innovation.”
Amazon makes a bigger technological investment in Australia
Citing figures from the Department of Industry, Science and Resources of the Government of Australia, Amazon said that AI and automation could contribute up to AU $ 600 billion annually to the Australian GDP by 2030.
As part of the cash injection and to support its expanding infrastructure network, Amazon also confirmed that it will build three new solar farms in Victoria and Queensland to add more than 170 megawatts of clean energy to the network. That is above the eight solar and wind projects in which it already invests in Nueva Wales del Sur and the two previous states.
With the 11 sites in operation, Amazon hopes to generate more than 1.4 million megawatts of clean energy annually.
“This is the biggest investment that our country has seen from a global technology provider, and it is an exciting opportunity for Australia to develop the ability to use safe and resistant infrastructure,” said Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The announcement comes with the usual garrisons: bold claims of ascending and generalized economic contributions.
Claiming to have trained more than 400,000 Australian citizens since 2017, the company promised to work with educational institutions, industry and government partners to obtain more training opportunities.
The CEO of AWS, Matt Garman, concluded: “IA is a unique transformation into the generation, and Amazon pleases to be training all Australians to innovate scale through this investment.”
The news occurs a few days after AWS committed $ 20 billion to expand the cloud computing infrastructure in Pennsylvania, and an additional commitment of $ 10 billion for North Carolina.
