LONDON:
The president and former Prime Minister of PML-N, Nawaz Sharif, has condemned Israel’s continuous actions against Iran, deploreing them acts of “oppression and excess” and reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Iranian people.
In a brief interaction with journalists outside the Avenfield residence in London, Nawaz Sharif said that Israel was currently committing “oppression and injustice.”
“We were with Iran and we will continue with Iran.”
The statement of the former prime minister occurred in the midst of growing regional tensions after Israeli attacks within the Iranian territory, taking a generalized conviction from all over the Muslim world.
Pakistan, in official statements, has firmly supported Iran’s right to self -defense and denounced Israel’s military aggression, qualifying it as a violation of international law.
Commenting on Pakistan’s defense position, Nawaz Sharif said that being a nuclear energy was a blessing to the country, but added that the intention behind the acquisition of nuclear capacity was to promote peace, not war.
“Pakistan being a nuclear country is a good fortune,” he said. “We become a nuclear power so as not to make war, but to establish peace.”
He requested global efforts towards stability and coexistence.
“There should be peace in the world,” said the former prime minister. “Israel has harmed Iran. What is happening is oppression. Just attack someone like that and burn it … This is not acceptable. What kind of society does this happen?”
He said that Pakistan remained aligned with Iran against Israeli atrocities.
“Pakistan stopped with Iran against Israeli atrocities and will continue to support,” he added.
The comments of the three times Prime Minister arrive when Pakistan has condemned Israeli actions, rejecting the military action of Tel Aviv that has entered his fifth day, while advocating moderation, dialogue and compliance with international standards.
