Rawalpindi:
The Department of Control of Special Taxes, Taxes and Narcotics has not been able to meet its property taxes and collection of professional taxes for fiscal year 2024-25 throughout the Rawalpindi region, since the department has only reached 48% of its objective, being short for a significant 52%.
On the contrary, the department’s motor branch successfully fulfilled its objectives in the categories of new vehicle and motorcycle records, transfer rates and taxes of Token, achieving a remarkable 150% of its income goal in those areas. The total income collection for the Rawalpindi region was RS680 million.
Due to the complete failure of the department in the collection of national and commercial property taxes, professional taxes and luxury taxes, the General Director of Special Taxes ordered the cancellation of Sunday weekly vacations. Starting this Sunday and continuing until the beginning of the new fiscal year, the special tax offices will remain open on Sundays to increase income recovery.
In a controversial movement to increase tax collection, the department has begun to issue reviewed property taxes changing the names in previously taxed residential units.
One of those cases involves the lawyer Najma Malik, who informed that despite paying RS150,000 in property tax under his name, a new warning of RS157,000 was issued under the name of her husband, depending on the signaling outside the house. She has challenged the new notice with the previous fiscal receipt.
As part of its continuous repression against the Moors, the department has sealed 241 property units and recovered RS3.1M in expired taxes.
Special tax inspectors have been ordered to leave their offices and raise taxes directly in the field.
However, with only 12 remaining days before the end of the fiscal year, reaching the collection objectives for the property tax, the luxury tax and the professional tax seem increasingly likely, leaving the department far from meeting its financial objectives.
