- 30.1% of the coding assistants written the python code
- It is even more likely that newer developers use AI
- Technology companies are also using more code generated by AI
A new research work entitled “Who is using AI for the code? Global dissemination and the impact of generative AI” has found that US software developers are the most intensive users of coding assistants worldwide.
In December 2024, it was believed that artificial intelligence had generated almost one in three (30.1%) Python functions by US developers in Github.
This places US developers. UU. Much ahead of their global counterparts in terms of use of AI, with countries such as German (24.3%), France (23.2%), India (21.6%), Russia (15.4%) and China (11.7%) delayed.

The researchers also pointed out that the most experienced developers are less likely to use AI (28%) compared to new GITHUB users (41%) that could be more receptive to the latest incorporations of the platform.
Despite coming with great promises of productivity, AI does not seem to have had a great impact.
Moving to 30% code generated by AI has only correlated with an increase of 2.4% in quarterly confirmations. The researchers place the economic value of the assisted coding in the US.
However, Daniotti et al noticed in the use of AI could be linked to greater experimentation, with a 2.2% increase in new libraries and a 3.5% increase in the new combinations of observed libraries, which suggests that technology could help developers to expand to new programming areas.
The trend is correlated with the main technology companies such as Google, Meta and Microsoft, which now admit that a great proportion (up to about a third) of its code, depending on the project and the case of use, is generated by Ia.
However, in the case of this study, the researchers admitted that the analysis focuses exclusively on open source Python projects in Github, therefore, the model effectively implies that the use rates of AI in Python are seen in other languages.
Even so, they expect quantified research to help skeptics of AI to make better informed decisions about how they see themselves using AI and its effects on the labor market.
