- Goal and Oakley are officially making smart glasses
- They are based on Oakley HSTN glasses design
- Lanning at the end of this summer, they will start at $ 399 / £ 399
It is official. After a teaser earlier this week, Oakley and Meta have made smart glasses, and as owner of the specifications of Ray-Ban Smart of almost two years, I am green of envy.
Later this summer, six pairs of Smart Oakley specifications will be available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Ireland and several other European countries, from $ 399 / £ 399 (we are still waiting for details of Australian prices).
Oakley Meta HSTN of limited edition (with gold accents and 24k prizm polarized lenses) will be available to preordinate before, since July 11, for $ 499 / £ 499 (again, we are waiting for the Australian price).
Why am I jealous? Well, to start, these smart glasses are ready to have some important hardware and software updates on my rays.
First it is an update to the camera. The Ray-Bans have an incorporated 12MP Snapper that can capture the Full-HD video (resolution 1440×1920) at 30 fps. Meta is promising that these Oakley specifications will record an Ultra HD video (3K), perhaps making them possible alternatives to the best action cameras for people who wish to record their sports acrobatics and look good.
Secondly, they can record for a longer time with an augmented battery life. My goal Ray-Bans has a four-hour battery life for ‘standard use’. They can play music, goal AI can answer the strange question and they should last for a long time; As soon as you start capturing videos, your battery will drain much faster
With the case by recharging them, the stripes can get up to 36 hours of total use.
Goal is doubling the built -in drums of glasses with their Oakleys, promising that they will last eight hours with standard use and 19 hours if they are waiting. Meta adds that he can recharge them at 50% in just 20 minutes with his case, and said that the load case has up to 48 hours of charge.
Finally, the Meta AI can still answer several questions for you and use the camera for context for your consultations, as we have seen in the Ray-Ban Meta Smart glasses, but will also get some new knowledge related to the sport.
The golfers can ask about the wind speed, while surfers can verify surf conditions, and can also ask the possible ways to improve their sports technique as well.
As with all these promises, we want to try Oakley’s HSTNS goal to see if they are up to exaggeration, but a way in which we can see that they are standing out is on the design side.
Damn, these things are beautiful.
Interestingly, the Oakley Spes design option is an important detail that the leaks were wrong. Instead of its Sphaera style tones, they are Oakley’s HSTN glasses (they tell me to pronounce how-stuhn).
These glasses seem more angular Ray-Ban Wayfarers, you know, one of the designs of existing goal goths, but they do have a serious design update for athletes that you will not find in the specifications that are not target oakley: Oakley’s prizm lenses.
Without being too technical, Prizm lenses are designed to provide greater contrast to what you can see. There are different models for snow sports, cycling and other sports (as well as daily use), but each one is designed to highlight key details that could be relevant to the user, such as contours in different snowmen or transitions in the types of paths and possible road risks.
If Prizm lenses sound like an exaggeration, you can also get a couple with transition lenses or completely clear lenses.
I changed my ray always shaded by a pair with transition lenses, and the difference is marked. Because they are clear in darker and shaded environments in a brighter climate, it has been much easier for me to use the torque of transition lenses such as daily smart glasses. Previously, I could only use my shaded pair in the sun, and that does not come out too frequently here in the United Kingdom.
The complete list of six Oakley smart glasses is:
- Oakley Meta Hstn Warm Gray with Ruby Prizm lenses
- Oakley Meta HSTN black with prizm polar black lenses
- Oakley Meta Hstn Brown Smoke with deep prizm polar waters lenses
- Oakley Meta Hstn Black with amethyst transitions
- Oakley Meta HSTN clear with gray lens transitions
- Oakley Meta Hstn Black with transparent lenses
Beyond the style and lenses, a surprising factor is that despite some serious battery updates, the frames do not seem greatly thick.
Like their Ray-Ban predecessors, they are clearly thicker than normal specifications, but they don’t look too different from normal tones.
In general, these Oakley glasses look and sound really impressive. I am biting the little to try a couple, and if you have been in the fence of collecting the goal Ray-Ban glasses, these improved options could be what convinces you to finally get some glasses with AI.
