Rawalpindi:
Nawaz Sharif Flyover of Khawaja Corporation in Adiala Road, along with two underground steps in Mall Road and an underground pedestrian catwalk, has entered its final completion phase. These projects are expected to be inaugurated at the end of this month.
In addition, it is expected that the construction of a high step and the underground steps in the busy Kachehri Chowk, as well as the underground steps in the Qasim market, the career course and Charing Cross, probably starts soon, probably during the current summer vacation period of educational institutions, to complete the complement of the completion.
After being built at a cost of RS2.3 billion, Nawaz Sharif’s elevated step in Khawaja Corporation Chowk in Adiala Road is in its final stage. Although the project could not be inaugurated on June 3 as initially planned, it is now expected to be inaugurated by Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz on June 30.
The same day, it is also likely to inaugurate two underground steps in Mall Road, at Flashman Hotel Chowk and Mall Plaza Chowk, as well as on the underground pedestrian catwalk near fans. This project is expected to also be completed before June 30, with a total cost of RS4.388B.
Meanwhile, a decision has been made to build additional underground steps at three of the most busy intersections in Mall Road and Peshawar Road: Qasim Market, Race Course Chowk and Charing Cross.
The Rawalpindi (RCB) Acantonation Board has received instructions to relocate underground services (electricity, gas, water supply and sewerage) of these places to facilitate construction.
In addition, an important project has been approved that involves the remodeling and expansion of Kachehri Chowk.
This project includes the construction of two high steps and three underground steps, with an estimated cost of RS8.5b. The Punjab government has already assigned funds for this project.
The sources say that after the completion of the two high steps and three underground steps in Kachehri Chowk, and with the construction of five underground steps in Mall Road and Peshawar Road, this whole route will effectively become a signal free corridor to the highway chowk.
It is worth noting that an underground step in Golra Mor has already been completed and is operational. The Punjab government is financing all these infrastructure projects, which are being executed by the Department of Provincial Communications and Works (C&W).
Schools obtain an operational impulse
