The Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, arrived in Istanbul on Saturday to participate in the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (IIC).

The two -day conference is held at a time of elevated tensions in the Middle East after Israel’s attacks on Iranian objectives, including the recent attack against Khondab nuclear installation and the ongoing war against Gaza.

It is expected that GIV shared Pakistan’s perspective on recent developments in southern Asia, including the high fire agreement with India, and reiterates Pakistan’s support for Palestinian status.

It will also emphasize the urgent need to establish peace in the Middle East and request immediate humanitarian assistance for the people of Gaza, who remain under siege.

The OIC Summit, organized by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, opened under the theme “The Organization of Islamic Cooperation in a transformative world.”

The session has generated record participation, with more than 1,000 expected delegates, including 43 ministers of foreigners and five deputy ministers of the Member States.

The summit is being closely observed as tensions between Israel and Iran continue to increase. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi is also expected to attend, according to a source from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited by the Anadolu agency.

On Thursday, Israel launched an air attack on the Khondab nuclear site in Arak. The Israeli army said it had attacked a partially constructed heavy water reactor, which experts believe that they could eventually produce weapon degree plutonium.

In response, Türkiye abruptly criticized Israel’s actions, called them illegal and supported Iran’s right to self -defense. Turkish officials have asked the Muslim nations to join compared to what they described as “destabilizing actions” in the region.

Fidan Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to deliver a solid statement at the summit that urges member states to form a unified position. President Rece Tayyip Erdogan will also go to the conference.

In addition to the members of the OICs, they are assisting high-level representatives of 30 international organizations, including the United Nations, the Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the Organization of the Turkic states, D-8, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and the World Trade Organization.

Apart from the summit, an extraordinary session of the Ministerial Conference of the Arab League will also take place in Türkiye, the first time the group calls a meeting in the country.

More than 200 local and international media journalists are covering the event.
