- RCS’s invitations are seen inside Google’s messages
- They could encourage their contacts to turn on RCS
- Until now, the new invitations have not been made available
The RCS standard (Rich Communication Services) intended as a replacement for the previous SMS (short message service) is now available in Google messages for Android and messages on the iPhone, and Google is interested in more users to register for it.
As is, RCS is an opted update within Google’s messages, so not everyone has it activated. The Android Authority team has seen hidden text in the latest version of the application that could be used so that people do not contain RCS.
Text chains include “inviting this contact to RCS Chat” and “We can share high quality media and send safe messages when we both are in RCS”, so it seems that you can encourage your contacts to enable RCS with a couple of taps.
These messages are not yet live, but they are included in the application code, so Google could enable them in the near future. It seems that an application appears to invite someone to RCS will appear if Google messages determine that they have no ignition.
Modern messages
If you have not yet enabled RCS in Google messages for Android, you can do it by playing your avatar on the chat list (above right), then Message configuration and Chats RCS: There is a Light the RCS chats Lever switch you can use.
RCS brings modern messaging characteristics, such as reading receipts, adequate group chat support and writing indicators, but all inside a chat have to use RCS, otherwise, everything will return to the old SMS standard.
We continue to see RCS updates within Google messages too, with the expansion of animated screen effects and media file management, for example. Earlier this month, a repetition function for chats was also implemented.
With Android 16 now also in the world, it should not spend much time before Google messages obtain its expressive update of material 3: the renewed aspect of the Google mobile operating system that adds more color and emotion.
