Peshawar:
Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) senator senator Azam Swati did not present to the National Responsibility Office (NAB) in relation to the corruption scandal of the mega Kohistan of RS40 billion, despite receiving a notice. Instead, his legal advisor appeared in his name.
According to NAB sources, Swati’s lawyer was instructed that the senator should appear in person. The lawyer requested the extension of a week, but NAB rejected the request and instructed Swati to appear without delay. NAB confirmed a second notice soon.
The initial notice required Azam Swati to appear on Monday as part of an investigation into suspicious financial transactions linked to the Kohistan corruption case. NAB alleges that RS3 billion were transferred to Azam Swati’s personal bank account, which raises serious concerns about financial irregularities.
NAB is investigating the Kohistan scandal after the revelations of generalized corruption that amounts to RS40 billion. The office has ordered Swati to present the financial records of Kohistan Associates and Builders, including the detailed information of the bank account.
According to the reports, it is worth noting that billions of rupees were deposited in the company’s accounts during the year 2024. The scandal came to light earlier this year, which led the provincial government to formally request a NAB investigation. Subsequently, an investigation committee was also formed at the cabinet level, headed by the main minister, to supervise the case.
It can be mentioned here that last month the KP government launched an investigation into the mega corruption scandal in the Kohistan district, where it is estimated that it was estimated at RS40 billion students of the provincial treasure.
The scandal was under intense scrutiny during a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), chaired by the president of the KP Assembly, Babar Salem Swati.
Officials of the Finance Department and the Office of the General Accountant admitted during the session that billions had been embezzled of the government’s funds.
Although until now an official embezzlement embezzlement of RS24 billion has been confirmed, PAC members expressed dissatisfaction with the explanations provided by the Secretary Finance and the General Accountant.
