- Apple continues to fill its sports monitoring application with new sports
- Tennis is the last entry
- Apple is also adding more personalization and granularity
Apple has just hit a heartbreaking, adding tennis to its sports application only for iPhone just in time for the greatest competition of sport: Wimbledon.
After launching in 2024 with the NBA, the NHL, the MLS, the basketball of the NCAA and the football of the NCAA, Apple Sports quickly added the MLB and since then it has expanded to include the NFL, the races and other leagues. However, tennis was a notable gap.
The sport arrives today and now is part of the free application, which is available in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. As with other sports, the game coverage will include live coverage point by point but not play for game. So do not expect line calls in coverage.
One of the reasons why people like me like Apple Sports is that they are up to their promise in real time, offering, in baseball, for example, almost instantaneous updates on runners and score. Tennis is, perhaps, an even faster game.
In a statement on the update, Apple is promising, “Live Puars awarded incredibly fast.” We’ll see.
However, Apple Sports will allow fans to track all the matches that occur after the qualifiers. Therefore, it will not only be the best game at any time, Apple Sports will cover all Wimbledon matches. Tennis coverage will offer personalized sports cards for each match, with the grass or clay used on the courts of each tournament (Wimbledon uses grass).
Tennis will also benefit from some other updates of all applications, including a refined home screen that now allows you to customize the league organization.
That will be useful even if you are not a tennis fan too. Speaking of that, I am especially excited about the small update that reaches the MLB coverage in live activities, which will now show the active details of a pitcher and batter below the score.
This has been a notable gap in sports baseball coverage. It is one of the main reasons why, although I love live sports activities, which can even appear on their blocking screen, I have often had to change to the MLB.com page to get details about who is hitting.

With two weeks (from June 30 to July 13) and dozens of games, Wimbledon will provide a rich test for the sports platform. You cannot follow individual players, which can make the whole matter feel a bit chaotic. With luck, sports will eventually allow you to do so so you can change quickly to a game for your “favorite” player.
The sport continues to keep the focus on the real sporting events of the League and still does not cover things such as the next MLB stars game (July 15) or the NBA draft (June 25). In a way, this helps maintain the application clean and efficient, but it also means that sports are being lost the key moments in each experience of the Sports League.
In addition, although Apple Sports is available on the iPhone and is seen as live activities in Apple Watch, plans are not known to take it to the iPad … still.
