An American Airlines flight to Charlotte was forced to make an emergency landing on Wednesday morning shortly after the take -off of Harry Reid International Airport, after the left engine of the aircraft issued smoke and seemed to fire, according to face -to -face witnesses.
Flight 1665, an Airbus A321 that transported 153 passengers and six crew members, had abandoned Las Vegas at 8:11 am local time when the incident occurred. The pilot quickly turned the plane and landed safely at the airport, according to New York Daily News.
“The aircraft was imposed on the door under its own power and customers normally defined,” said American Airlines in a statement. “We appreciate the professionalism of our team and thank our team that is working to take our customers to their destinations as quickly as possible.”
Injuries were not reported, and the airline confirmed that the aircraft has been taken out of service for additional evaluation and repairs.
The eyewitness and passengers informed having seen flames and heard unusual noises. Patrick Chapin, a passenger aboard, told local media that he heard a “boom” followed by a persistent rumble. However, American Airlines declared that its mechanics found no evidence of a real fire during an initial inspection.
The airport’s public information officer, Luke Nimmo, confirmed that the plane landed safely and taught without help. The video images captured by the local resident Annette Riding showed black smoke that stopped from the left engine moments after takeoff, Queen city news reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident.
This emergency landing occurs in the middle of a series of global aviation incidents in 2025, including a deadly accident of Air India earlier this month and a tragic collision in the air in January that involved an American Airlines jet and an army helicopter, which charged 67 lives.
