Karachi: A powerful electric thunderstorm brought both the breath of heat and interruption to daily life through Thursday night, since more than 200 energy feeders shot, immersing large parts of the city in the dark.

According to the reports, several areas of the port city, including Arriejani Town, Malir, North Karachi, II Chundarigar Road, Gulshan-E-Hadeed and Gadap, witnesses of strong downpours accompanied by rays and bundles. The rain also hit Clifton, Defense, scheme 33, North Nazimabad, Model Colony, Safoora, Korangi, Landhi and Saadi Town.

Following the brief short waters, residents in many parts of the megacicte were left without electricity.

The city’s energy supplier spokesman, K-Electric, confirmed the food trips in Gulshan-E-Maymar, Surjani, Nazimabad and Gulshan-E-Iqbal, which lead to interruptions in New Karachi, the city of Jamshed, the old area and the localities they surround.

Maripur, Lyari, Kelari, Hawks Bay and Quaidabad were among other areas also affected by cuts. Meanwhile, the power supply was also suspended in the PIB colony, Pechs and Korangi parts.

Caution off: Ke starts restoration

A K-Electric spokesman declared that electricity had closed preventively in low areas as a security measure. The restoration work began as soon as the rain stopped, said the spokesman.

The electricity supply has been restored to key areas such as Alba Iqbal Road, Tariq Road, Clifton Blocks 1, 2 and 6, as well as to the Punjab neighborhood, the Delhi colony, the Muslim society of Sindhi, Nazimabad, Nishtar Colony, Jahangir Road and parts of Liaquatabad and the area C-1.

The public services company also confirmed that the supply had been restored in Amenabad, Nusrat Bhutto Road and the marble industrial area.

Although the power supply in defense phase 1 was interrupted at 11 PM, since then it has been restored, according to residents.

Meanwhile, Clifton Block 5 and Yasenabad residents in Gulshan-E-Shameem reported renewed interruptions.

Currently, an uninterrupted power is being delivered through 1,750 of the 2,100 feeders of the city, Ke Straesed, and added that the power supply has been restored in the Gulshan-E-E-Maymar S and T sectors, Phase 2 of Hade-EEEEEEEE-Hade, PCSIR and the Society of the University of Karachi.

Meanwhile, residents told PakGazette News that the energy supply had been suspended at Garden West Fawara Chowk from midnight.

Mayor Wahab inspects the water situation

The mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, began the field visits shortly after the rain stopped. It was accompanied by the AFZal Zaidi Commissioner. They visited several areas, including Khayaban-E-Defense Hilal, Clifton, South District and its surroundings.

The mayor also visited the Governor’s house, the Sindh assembly, the building of the Supreme Court and the Karachi Press Club, as well as the house of the main minister. During his visit, he reviewed the arrangements after the rain. The municipal commissioner informed him that the drainage work was in progress.

In a movement to guarantee an emergency response at 24 hours, Wahab ordered that the municipal personnel remain on a maximum alert and suspend its leaves.

The commissioner confirmed that the suction and staff bombs had been deployed in the low towns of the city.

Provincial Minister issues emergency instructions

Meanwhile, Sindh’s rehabilitation minister and the president of the Provincial Authority for Disaster Management (PDMA), Makhdoom Mehboob-Uz-Zaman, instructed PDMA officials to closely control the situation of rain throughout the province.

He directed the 1122 rescue teams to immediately respond to emergencies and avoid causing inconvenience to the public.

The minister emphasized the need to provide maximum relief and facilities to affected citizens.
