The two -time Major Champion Collin Morikawa had a controversial conversation with a journalist during a press conference before Rocket Classic on Wednesday.

Morikawa, 28, got an appointment that Golfweek reporter Adam Schupak gave his story about the recent change of Morikawa caddie.

Schupak wrote a story that covered Morikawa’s caddie change and said it was not clear who Morikawa would have as his caddie in the future. Schupak included this Morikawa event in history.

“Ask me what you want at my press conference later. Now I am with my pro-am partners,” was the quote that Schupak used from Morikawa in his story.

When Schupak asked Morikawa at the press conference on who will do it at the British Open, the golfist used the question to disagree with Schupak’s use of his appointment in history.

“I don’t do it. And I read your article you wrote. Look, I’m not here to tell people how to do their jobs, but I don’t understand why you would sound badly because you got my appointment that I was playing with Pro-Am partners on the front,” Morikawa said.

“Those boys are paying a lot of money, they are very important for the community, they are very important for the rocket classic and for you to present an appointment like that to leave me and say: ‘Hey, wait two and a half hours.’ I mean, you called me in the first tee, you know?”

“I’m not going to tell you how to do your job; you can write what you want. This is America. But don’t leave me like that because it’s two and a half hours, Adam.”

Schupak said he thought he was giving Morikawa credit because he pointed out that Morikawa was focused on his pro-AM partners. However, Morikawa told Schupak that it is not as he read it.

“Ok, we can all read it very differently. That’s not how I read it,” Morikawa said.

“But I’m just telling you, I think there is a perspective in which people can read it like that. So, I’m just going to leave it like that. We knew I was going to have media in two and a half hours. I am in the first tee knowing my pro-am classmates while they are in my eyes.”

After Morikawa commented at the press conference, Schupak eliminated Morikawa’s original appointment and updated the story with a new appointment.

It is not the first time that Morikawa has scrambled the feathers with the media this season, since his comments in the masters made waves.

Morikawa is currently tied in 35th position at the Rocket Classic in the Detroit Golf Club as three bass for the day. At the time of this writing, Min Woo Lee led the tournament after shooting at nine under the first round.
