The heading of the Cardinals of the San Luis, Sonny Gray, converted one of the most dominant launch performances of the season in the 5-0 victory of the team over the Cleveland Guardians in Progressive Field on Friday.
Gray, 35, completed the “Maddux”, throwing nine whiten ball entries while giving a hit and struck out 11 batters with only 89 pitches.
Gray’s performance marks the first time a pitcher launched a complete bleached of less than 90 pitches since 2021. The AS of the New York Yankees, Max Fried, was the last pitcher to do it, when he closed the Orioles of Baltimore as a member of the Atlanta Braves.

The three-time All-Star has launched seven full games in his 13-year-old career, but Friday’s complete game was Gray’s first since 2017, when he did it with the Yankees.
“I did it much earlier in my career, and it has been a while,” Gray said after the game. “You don’t know if you could do it, especially the way the games were of the type, and especially with me. As, it does not launch more than 100 launches very often.”

Gray never launched more than 12 releases in an entrance and had two tickets with eight or less releases. Gray was in the attack throughout the game with 19 first launch strikes at the 28 batters he faced.
The cardinal starter withdrew 15 of the Cleveland batters in three launches or less, including six in the first launch.

“I knew the tickets moved a little. I knew it was perfect for so long. I made a good release there when the guy received the blow, so it was fine with that,” Gray said. “When he went through the ninth, he felt as another entry, which was pleasant.”
The cardinals (45-38) will seek to take advantage of Gray’s performance when they face the Guardians (40-40) in the second game of a series of three games on Saturday at 4:10 pm et.
