The rookie feeling of the Dallas Wings, Paige Bueckers, boarded the comments he made in 2021 about the use of his platform to “celebrate black women” during a podcast interview on Friday.
In an appearance in the “Nilosophy” podcast, Bueckers was asked about his comments on the 2021 Espy, when he said: “I think we should use this power together to also celebrate black women” while we discussed the impact of sports media.
Bueckers answered the question, expressing his gratitude to the media while affirming that “he tries to isolate himself.”

“I feel that … the media are great. It is their work to appear in the headlines and make people click, take advantage of Bueckers. “The rivalries are great. It makes people speak about our game. They cover our game and pay attention to your game.
“So, you have to be grateful for them. But much of that is also that they are trying to isolate you. And, for me, it was like, it is very easy to do everything about you.
Bueckers added that she also aims to give credit to God too.

“Nobody does anything by himself and, how to spread, obviously, my faith is really important to me. So, using my platform to glorify God has been enormous, and then simply spreading light over others. I think it is, as I said, I don’t want to do anything about me,” Bueckers said.
In May, after the Wings turned Bueckers into the first general selection in the WNBA Draft of 2025, Bueckers spoke again on the issue of the coverage of black women in the league.
“It is still a problem, every day,” he said Time magazine. “There is never the same coverage.”

“There is a white privilege every day I see,” he said about marketing opportunities.
“I feel that I have worked extremely hard, blessed by God. But I think there are more opportunities for me. I feel that even commercialization, people tend to favor whites: white men, white women. I think it should be the same opportunity. I feel that there is a privilege of what I have what all white people have.
