The federal government launched a new Power Smart mobile application, “Apna Meder, APNI Reading ”, aimed at improving transparency in electricity billing and training consumers to take control of their monthly meter readings, emerged on Sunday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif officially opened the application, developed by the power division under the leadership of Minister Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari.
The application allows users to upload a photo of their meter reading on a specific date, which will then be used to generate their invoice.
The movement is directed to key problems, such as excessive, delayed or inaccurate readings, and the lack of transparency in the current system.
Consumers who present their readings will cancel the company’s subsequent readings for that billing cycle.
The characteristic is particularly beneficial for subsidized consumers, helping them to avoid losing their eligibility due to minor discrepancies.
For example, crossing the use threshold of 200 units for even a unit can increase a bill from PKR 2,330 to more than PKR 8,000.
