Pindi consumers promised uninterrupted gas supply

RAWALPINDI:

A senior official of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) Rawalpindi has said that serious efforts are being made to ensure uninterrupted supply of natural gas during the winter season.

Speaking on the situation, SNGPL Managing Director Umar Hayat emphasized that gas is being distributed prudently to ensure that all consumers have access even as demand usually increases during the colder months. He highlighted the company’s commitment to addressing challenges and ensuring homes receive the energy they need to stay warm.

Hayat further said that despite awareness campaigns, unfortunate incidents still occur due to negligence. “We must promote a culture of safe gas use,” he said, adding that families and staff of institutions must be educated about the necessary precautions.

He urged consumers to take precautionary measures to prevent accidents caused by carelessness and recommended that hotels and guesthouses display safety instructions, especially for the use of gas heaters.

Consumers should always use quality brand gas appliances and regularly inspect home pipes for possible leaks, he added. “If you smell gas, check for leaks with soap and water and never use matches. Only hire certified plumbers to fix leaks,” he stressed.

He warned against using electrical switches or fans in the event of a gas leak, as the sparks could cause a fire or explosion. Instead, he recommended turning off the main valve, opening windows and doors to ventilate, and seeking professional help.

Hayat also advised against using rubber pipes with gas heaters and emphasized ensuring adequate airflow in rooms with heaters. Before going to bed, it advised consumers to turn off all gas appliances and close the main supply valve.
