The National Male Soccer team in the United States is going to the semifinals of the Concacaf Gold Cup after a dramatic shooting of a penalty against Costa Rica.

The game was blocked in two goals each after more than 90 minutes, which led to the penalty shooting that had all the dramas to keep everyone on the edge of their seats to see who would continue.

After the USMNT Tyler Adams and Alonso Martínez de Costa Rica buried their attempts to start the penalty shooting, goalkeeper Matt Freese of the United States made a great salvation in the shot of Juan Pablo Vargas to give the advantage to his team.

This occurred after Malik Tillman compensated a lost criminal shot during the regular time that could have been the winner of the game, perfectly placing his left shot beyond the Keylor Navas Costa Rican legend.

But Sebastian Berhalter, the son of the former chief coach of USMNT, Gregg Berhalter, matched things when he sent his attempt flying on the network. Santiago Van der Putten’s tracking shot for Costa Rica beat Freese despite the goalkeeper guessed in the right way.

After Alex Freeman and Jefferson Breenos made their shots respectively, Freese obtained another salvation in the attempt of Francisco Calvo, giving John Tolkin the opportunity to finish everything for the USMNT. But Navas arrived in Clutch, as he jumped to his left and the shot of Tolkin came out.

An extra round was needed, but Freese was simply locked up. He was able to stop the consecutive shots, this time saving the shot of Andy Rojas.

Again, the USMNT had the opportunity to finish the game, and Damion Downs had the opportunity. Navas could not guess this time, since Downs went to the left and celebrated immediately when the ball hit the bottom of the network.

During the 90 minutes before the shooting, there were also fireworks, starting with “Los Ticos” going up to the board first. It was Calvo who obtained the best of Freese with a penalty in the 12th minute.

However, the UMSNT recovered towards the end of the first half with Diego Luna scoring in the 43rd minute and Max Arfsten followed him in the 47th minute.

Then, in the 71st minute of the second half, Martínez slid after a reboot of Freese to tie the game.

But the USMNT will be the ones who will face Guatemala on Wednesday in the semifinal to determine who has a place in the final of the Gold Cup.

The other semifinal is Mexico against Honduras, which will be played after the United States and Guatemala.
