Islamabad:
The legislators of the Upper House demanded weapons licenses for themselves, which led to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to announce that a prohibited substantive license will be issued to all members of Parliament.
The Senate Permanent Committee meeting, chaired by Senator Faisal Salem, began with sentences for the victims of the Swat tragedy.
Legislators raised multiple problems, including arms licenses, illegal housing societies in Islamabad, water scarcity and security arrangements for Muharram.
Senator Palwlawa Khan raised the issue of issuing weapons license to parliamentarians.
In response, NAQVI announced that each member of the Parliament will receive a license, adding that the installment assignments would be increased for the areas that face the deterioration of the law and order situations.
He also ordered reimbursements for people who paid tariffs for licenses during the previous mandate but never received them.
During the session, the Director General (DG) of Immigration and Passport Mustafa Jamal Qazi was criticized by the members of the committee.
Senator Haji Hidayatullah protested against the supposed non -professional behavior of the DG, claiming that Qazi ignores his calls and refuses to act on them, while accommodating others for the same requests.
“He even said about my leader Aimal Wali Khan,” Is it bigger than the State? “, Which is an unacceptable insult,” said Hidayatullah.
Interior Minister Naqvi instructed the Secretary of the Interior to investigate the matter.
The Committee was also informed about the amendments proposed to the Pakistan Citizenship Law 2025.
DG Qazi explained that the Pakistani abroad who previously had to renounce Pakistani citizens to acquire foreign nationality would now be eligible to claim it, especially those of countries with which Pakistan has bilateral agreements.
He argued that this movement would help attract investments, philanthropy and experience to Pakistan.
However, Senator Palwlawa questioned the practical benefits, which led Qazi to answer: “These individuals are active. They win abroad, they invest here and contribute to development and charity in Pakistan.”
