Crypto Investors lost $ 2.5b for hacking and scams in the first half of 2025: Certik

Computer pirates stole more than $ 2.47 billion in cryptocurrencies in the first half of 2025, since it exceeded the total of $ 2.42 billion last year, according to Certik’s Hack3D report.

Most of that figure can be attributed to two incidents; The violation of Bybit and the exploit of the CETUS protocol that combined were worth $ 1.78 billion.

The wallet’s commitment was the key attack vectors for computer pirates in the first half of this year, which contributed to losses worth $ 1.7 billion, while phishing was still unbridled, which resulted in $ 410 million stolen in 132 incidents.

Phishing is a technique that hackers use to steal the password or credentials of a victim to access an account.

“While the general figures are alarming, it is important to note that most of the funds lost in H1 were attributable to two high -impact concentrated events,” said Certik Ronghui Gu.

“But independently, the results serve as another reminder for the industry that there is still a lot of work to do,” Gu.

The report also found that $ 801 million were lost alone in the second quarter, a 52% decrease in the previous quarter. Most of the hacks took place in Ethereum, with $ 1.5 billion stolen in 164 incidents, followed by Bitcoin with $ 373 million stolen in 10 incidents.
