  • Pet bird charges increase 50%, from RS200 to RS300 per kg.
  • Betel leaves see 100% jump, now with a price of RS70 per kg.
  • The general load ratings increased by 25%, reaching RS125 per kg.

The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) has sharply increased load management charges throughout the country, and some rates are raised up to 100 times, the first important review in five years aimed at aligning tariffs with operating costs.

The revised rates entered into force on July 1, according to an official notification issued in the early hours of Wednesday.

This marks the first time in five years that the load tariffs have been reviewed. The authority says that the decision was approved by its Executive Committee and reflects the need to align rates with operating costs.

According to the new rates calendar, charges for the transport of pet birds have been raised by 50%. The rate has jumped from RS200 to RS300 per kilogram.

Similarly, load loads in Betel leaves, a commonly sent article, have doubled at RS70 per kilogram.

General load rates have also increased by 25%, passing from RS100 to RS125 per kilogram.

In addition to pet birds, the revised list covers air freight rates for pets such as cats and dogs, as well as for various articles categorized as general load.

The authorities defended the walk, saying that the charges had remained unchanged for half a decade despite the growing service costs of the airport.

PAA is an autonomous public sector agency established in August 2024 under Section 3 of the Pakistan Airport Authority Law to improve the administration, operation and development of airports and air transport services in Pakistan.
