- HPE pushes Morpheus as VMware virtualization costs increase under Broadcom
- Socket -based price offers costs for implementing high -core systems
- Morpheus aims to compete, but VMware remains deeply rooted in the company
Hewlett Pckard Enterprise has sought to address the growing rumors of its clients about the increase in VMware license fees after the Broadcom acquisition of the virtualization company in 2023.
HPE is actively responding to these concerns, especially those who see important increases in virtualization costs, by promoting their Morpheus platform in its recent HPE Discover 2025 event.
HPE acquired Morpheus in 2024 and since then has worked to make it a viable option for companies that seek to reduce or end their VMware dependence.
A choice of editions
Morpheus is being integrated into the wider private cloud offers of HPE, with two editions available to meet different needs.
The VM Esuntials edition is aimed at smaller environments and admits local KVM groups and VMware groups through VCenter.
This edition has a much lower entrance cost, with a price of around $ 600 per plug and, unlike Broadcom nuclei licenses, which some say that it penalizes the scale, the HPE model per socket remains fixed independently independently of hardware configuration.
This could attract those with high core content systems and help organizations to keep their infrastructure costs better.
For more advanced implementations, there is Morpheus Enterprise. This includes profiles of profiles and costs to help compare the cloud options and in the former. This version is priced at approximately $ 2,500 per plug.
HPE’s goal seems to be giving customers a clearer path away from VMware, starting little and expanding.
It remains to be seen if that is enough to make a dent in the deep entanglement of VMware in business environments, but HPE is clearly presenting the case.
Servethehome’s Patrick Kennedy writes: “We know that many people are struggling with virtualization license costs. It seems that HPE sees the need. Actually, it was good to see that HPE is trying aggressively to transfer VMware customers and the Morpheus Booth was certainly busy today. For people who are still looking for solutions, this could be one to look especially if you are a HPE store.” “.” “
