- OWC hardware encryption is instantly activated without dragging your computer’s performance during transfers
- The randomized touch screen keyboard helps block the eyes of espionage and shoulder surfaces trying to steal passwords
- In encryption or not, the speed of 1000 MB/s of OWs Guardian SSD is rapid enough for the 4K video edition
OWC has announced Guardian, a compact portable SSD focused on delivering a strong hardware encryption and fast transfer speeds.
The OWC Guardian connects through USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) and offers up to 1000 MB/s in Reading and Writing Speeds of the real world, which makes it able to handle 4K Video files, Media files and fast backups.
Designed with 256 -bit opal hardware encryption, the Guardian handles the protection of hardware level.
Perfect encryption without system slowdown
The encryption process begins automatically when the data is written and invested (decipher) when they access by an authorized user.
This prevents dependence on host system resources, preserving performance even during large data transfers.
It is one of the few devices in its price range that combines speed and encryption without demanding software installation, which can be located among the best safe units for professional use of routine.
OWC says the device is compatible with macOS, Windows, Linux and even iPados.
It includes a touch screen interface, which serves as the main method for user authentication through PIN or passes phrase, but also allows access to additional features such as multiple user profiles, reading mode, automatic time, safe erase and a randomized keyboard design.
Physically, the album is housed in anodized aluminum to improve heat dissipation and general durability.
However, unlike some of the best resistant hard drives, The Guardian lacks an IP rating for dust or water resistance.
This can limit its reliability in field conditions or outdoor environments, where environmental protection is a priority.
The Guardian comes with a SSD NVME NVME AURA AURA DE AURA 1TB (960GB usable) but is also available in higher capabilities, including a 4TB version.
Internal firmware reserves a part of the space for data correction and redundancy.
It is formatted in APFS for apple devices by default, but can be reformat for Windows or Android using the usefulness of the OWC drive guide.
However, full access to multiplatform reading/writing requires separate software such as MacDrive.
“We design the OWC Guardian for anyone who needs simple and reliable data protection on the march, but without the typical discomfort,” said Larry O’Connor, CEO and founder, other World Computing (OWC).
“Whether you are transferring a huge file in the joint room, make a data backup in the local cafeteria or edit a 4K video for your last content drop, you should not have to choose between safety, speed and ease of use. The OWC Guardian offers all three, in a resistant and intuitive design built to travel.”
The price starts at $ 219.99 for the 1.0TB model, while 2.0TB and 4.0TB models cost $ 329.99 and $ 529.99, respectively.
