Islamabad:
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, and the Minister of State of the Interior, Talal Chaudhry, held an important meeting with the main religious academics throughout the country to discuss measures to maintain peace, law and order and interreligious harmony during Muharram, especially in Ashura.
The meeting, chaired by the president of the Central Committee of Ruet-E-Hilal, Mauula Abdul Khabir Azad, brought together academics from all schools of thought. Also present were senior officials of the Ministry of Interior, the FIA, the Islamabad Police and other agencies of application of the law.
During the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi praised the important role played by religious academics to preserve peace and stability during sensitive times. He said that his efforts are as crucial as those of security forces and that academics remain in constant contact with the administration, helping to solve problems before they intensify. He added that personally he had witnessed many sensitive issues that resolved peacefully through the wisdom and efforts of religious scholars.
The minister emphasized the importance of mutual respect between the different sects, stating: “We must not abandon our own sect or attack others.” He called this a golden principle that should be extended throughout the country to promote unity. He also emphasized that Imam Hussain (AS) is a venerated figure for all Muslims and that each believer shares an egalitarian spiritual connection with him.
