- A new search capacity is being implemented for the Copilot application
- It gives Windows 11 and 10 users a search with AI, which offers natural language consultations
- Copilot can also take a look at the files inside and find relevant information you need, keeping the press work
Windows 11 is getting a new Copilot ability to help you find files on your PC, and get information quickly from those files, if you wish.
The latest Windows reports report that extended search powers provided by AI, which were previously in tests (a few months ago) with Windows 11, are now being implemented to all users (including those of Windows 10 too).
The last folk at Windows already has the new functionality for the Copilot application and tested it, generally impressed by the function.
It allows the user to activate a local PC search, although there are limitations in the covered locations (I will return to that), within the co -ilot application simply writing a natural language consultation. For example: “Find my curriculum for that job application I did last year.”
Clearly, it is good to have the ability to simply asking a question like this, instead of trying to use the search for Windows in itself and (try) to discover the best consultation, after all, who can remember the names of exact files, especially with older files?
Analysis: a recommended and useful characteristic … with some warnings
Last Windows observes that this search for co -drivers is fast, since it is a local search, which also includes any file synchronized in OneDrive, and takes advantage of the search for Windows itself. In other words, the Copilot application is not expected to send data to the cloud, or wait for a response from Microsoft servers, everything is happening on the device, so it is quite Japanese.
The proportionate search is also better than a basic search for Windows 11, although this is how the consultation is resolved, since it can use natural language as indicated. In fact, this is a kind of improvised alternative to the ingenious search for AI -Supercarged in Windows 11 that is offered with co -pilot+ PCs, and I’m glad to see it, because most of us do not have one of those devices (I certainly do not).
In addition to this, the search for co -ilot applications also allows the surface information of the files that you are hunting without even opening them. So, if you are looking for a document file full of recipes, and want a private recipe for a curry, for example, you can request exactly that, and the AI will extract it from the document there and then.
This search with co -pilot also allows you to avoid some of the errors with the standard search functionality of Windows 11 (although it still takes advantage of the fact that the latter obtains results).
Okay, everything sounds good in general, but not everything is roses of sweet smell. There is a remarkable spine in the scope of the search is limited to commonly used files (which means that dark file formats may not appear). In addition, default, locations covered by this search for AI are limited to their essential personal folders (such as documents and downloads). However, it can expand that scope and give access to co -drivers to additional folders if you wish.
However, the most thorn problem for many will be privacy. It is important to keep in mind that this search capacity is deactivated by default, which is good and, frankly necessary, since there are many people who are very against the co -drivers ‘that are removed in their files’.
It is also worth noting that there is not only a lever to activate the local file search capacity for co -pilot, but also a separate sliding control to allow IA to read its files. Obviously, this is obviously necessary for the co -pilot to produce material from within a file (such as the curry recipe mentioned above), so if you want to perform that trick, it will obviously need to let the co -pilot “narrate” in their things.
If you do not want the AI to have that type of access, you can still use the function, but leave this second sliding control alone and will not be seen in your files (but you will only get the basic search in the Copilot application).
There will still be many doubts about this type of characteristic, mind, but while it is defined by default, it will not be a problem: it can take it or leave it. If this functionality sounds useful, then you can move on and enable it, with the deployment apparently in progress, it is expected to appear in all Windows 11 and 10 pieces before a long time.
