After the collapse of a five -story building in Lyari that killed at least 23 people, the Sindh government will launch a gradual operation to evacuate and demolish all dangerous structures in the area.
The building, located in the Baghdadi neighborhood, collapsed early Friday. It lodged six families, and each floor contained three apartments.

“The unit will begin immediately after approval and will be carried out in phases,” he said. “All dangerous buildings will be evacuated and demolished. A policy is also being developed to provide alternative homes to displaced.”

Khan said that temporary arrangements had been made for victims in community centers and hotels, but most families decided to stay with relatives. Some people remain in shelters, where Lyari TMC is providing basic foods and needs.
The rescue operation is expected to be completed on Sunday. The authorities have also promised to take legal actions against those involved in illegal construction practices in the area.
The authorities revealed that the collapsed building had declared itself insecure three years ago, but no application measures were taken, and residents continued to live there despite the repeated warnings.
The attached commissioner of Karachi South, Javed Khoso, said that notices have been issued in 2022, 2023 and early this year.
Khoso added that of the 107 dangerous buildings identified in the district, 21 are considered highly dangerous, with 14 already unoccupied.
