The first round of additional conversations at the secretary level between Pakistan and Afghanistan has been completed, focusing on the implementation of the decisions taken during the visit of the Vice Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ishaq Dar, to Kabul on April 19.
Discussions focused on key areas of mutual interest, including trade, traffic cooperation, security and connectivity.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Pakistani delegation was directed by the additional secretary of Afghanistan and Western Asia Ali Asad Gilani, while the Afghan delegation was headed by Moti Noor Ahmad Noor, general director of the Political Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affects of Afghan.
During the conversations, both parties recognized terrorism as a significant threat to regional peace and security. Pakistan emphasized the need for decisive actions against terrorist groups that operate from the Afghan territory, emphasizing that such groups undermine the security of Pakistan and hinder regional development.
The two delegations also reviewed the progress of several agreements, including the elimination of the 10% processing rate in Afghan traffic trade, the provision of insurance guarantees, reductions in scanning procedures and activation of the monitoring and trace system.

In addition, the discussions covered the agreement of the Railway frame of Uzbekistan-Faganistán-Pakistan, and both parties agreed to finish it soon. The return of Afghan citizens to their homeland was also a key issue of discussion.
The informative session revealed that since January 2024, Pakistan has issued more than 500,000 visas for medical, tourist, commercial and educational purposes. Both parties reiterated their commitment to facilitate the legal movement of people through borders and improve bilateral ties.
The next round of conversations will be scheduled on mutually agreed dates, with both countries reaffirming their support to strengthen sustainable cooperation to address shared challenges.
