Rawalpindi/Lahore:
The family of the founder of PTI Imran Khan, including his children Suleman Khan and Kasim Khan, will be part of the protest movement called by him, his sister Aleem Khan said Tuesday.
Aleem spoke with the media after his two sisters Uzma and Noreen Khan and the party’s lawyers met the founder of PTI in the Adiala prison. Aleem, however, the permission for the meeting was denied. She told journalists that Imran Khan would lead the protest movement from inside the prison.
“Imran Khan has said that he will lead the protest movement. He is free while he is in jail, but we are prisoners despite being outside,” he said. “Our family will be completely involved in the protest movement. Suleman and Kasim have said that later [visiting] The United States will join the movement, “he added.
“Imran Khan has said that those who could not carry the weight of the movement should leave now,” he continued, adding that Imran wanted the movement to reach its maximum point on August 5, when he completed two years of imprisonment.
Jail letter
PTI’s imprisoned leaders have written another joint letter, expelling the Government for “destroying” key democratic institutions, including media, the judiciary and Parliament.
The letter accuses the current rulers of betraying the spirit of the letter of democracy, an agreement once signed by the leaders of the two main political parties, Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto.
The letter, by leaders currently imprisoned in the Kot Lakhpat prison, was jointly written by former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Mihmoodur Rasheed, Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry and Omar Sarfraz Chema.
“The letter of democracy was destined to guarantee constitutional supremacy and judicial independence,” PTI’s leaders wrote, “but has been sabotiated by the same parties that began it, all for the good of personal political profits.”
The letter argues that the way to get Pakistan out of its compound crises lies in restoring the rule of law and defending the supremacy of the Constitution.
In addition, they alleged that the government has severely undermine democratic principles through legislative overreach and electoral manipulation. “The media have been suffocated through the PCA ordinance, the Judicial Power attacked through the 26th Constitutional amendment, and Parliament left meaningless through form 47,” said the letter, adding that the people of Pakistan deserve a total respect for their democratic rights.
The last letter marks the second communication of this type in a week of the imprisoned senior leaders of PTI, who had previously urged the party to participate in the dialogue with the Government led by PML-N.
