Harris English will play in the next week’s open championship in Royal Portrush, probably without his tournament partner.
Caddy English, Eric Larson, is currently trapped in the United States after not being able to obtain a new electronic travel authority visa (ETA) to travel to the United Kingdom, a regulation that is now applied to Americans.
Thirty years ago, Larson declared himself guilty of sending cocaine to friends in the west. Although he was not a large user or distributor, he spent 10 years and three months in prison and was released from a house halfway in June 2006.

Larson said he did not realize that he needed the ETA visa until the US opened, and when he completed the form, he was denied. The reasons for the refusal include an applicant who has been convicted of a criminal offense in the United Kingdom or abroad for which they served 12 months or more in prison.
“I guess the United Kingdom does not look very good in its past,” said English on Tuesday at the Renaissance Club before Scotland Open. “And apparently it is a job in progress.”

The English, which is number 19 in the world and the tenth in the United States classification for the Ryder Cup, said he did not realize the difficult situation of Larson until just after tied in fourth place in the traveler championship three weeks ago.
English said he approached Warren Stephens, the ambassador to the United Kingdom who put him in touch with his chief of cabinet.
“They wrote a letter. The R & A wrote a letter. The PGA Tour wrote a letter. A charity event for which Eric works in the United States (Operation New Hope) wrote a letter. It is not for lack of effort,” added English. “I think I could be sitting on someone’s desk in the government somewhere.”

The English was part of the Ryder Cup team in 2021 at Whistling Straits during a dismantling of the European team, they would avenge two years later in Rome, and Larson was on the stock market. This year’s event will take place at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York.
