Fire Nationals GM offers a farewell gift in a gratitude show to Washington fans

Mike Rizzo’s career with Washington’s nationals came to an end earlier this week. The MLB club relieved Rizzo from its duties from the general manager after 16 years.

Rizzo helped build the winning list of the 2019 World Series of the Nationals. But the team has had a first half of the 2025 season and entered Friday’s action in the last place in the Eastern National League.

Despite his departure without national ceremonies, Rizzo still took a moment to show his appreciation for the team’s fan base by offering what was probably an unexpected gesture.

Rizzo, through his Instagram account of the Rizzo Family Foundation, confirmed that the work of the non -profit organization would continue. He also expressed his gratitude to fans and pointed out that he would be willing to cover the costs of drinks in a couple of sports bars before Monday’s home run.

Rizzo also reacted to his dismissal during a radio interview, saying that “he did not regret” his time in the main office.

Rizzo also recognized the expectations associated with the supervision of baseball operations of a MLB team.

“This is a performance -based industry. When it is not done with the standards that the property has established, it is its option to make changes,” he said.

Washington compiled a record of 1,263-1,317 and advanced to the postseason five times under Rizzo. The nationals also recently separated with the manager Dave Martínez.
