QUETTA:
Baluchistan’s prime minister, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, has urged human rights organizations to build an impartial narrative and based on events of history, current realities and the general situation of Baluchistan.
He expressed these points of view at a meeting with a delegation of the Pakistan Human Rights Commission (HRCP) in the Secretariat of the Principal Minister in Quetta on Saturday.
Bugti said that the current narrative at national and international level with respect to Baluchistan was inconsistent with the facts and needed review to reflect a balanced and precise perspective.
The meeting included in -depth discussions on law and order, human rights conditions and social development initiatives of the province.
When thinking about history, Bugti pointed out that the adhesion of the former state of Kalat to Pakistan in 1948 was the result of a mutual agreement instead of coercion, and added that certain groups had deliberately distorted historical facts to deceive those who are not familiar with the true past of the region.
Referring to recent terrorist incidents, he condemned the objective death of innocent citizens based on their identity, describing it as part of a broader agenda driven by hostile foreign powers, particularly in India.
“These terrorist acts have nothing to do with a struggle for rights, but they are part of an organized attempt to destabilize and divide Pakistan,” he said, adding that the supporters of these groups have openly expressed their intentions on several national and international platforms.
Questioning the legitimacy of such violent acts, Bugti asked: “What kind of movement of rights implies killing people based on their ethnic identity?”
He pointed out that such elements had rejected dialogue and openly defended the division of Pakistan, an approach that was unacceptable in any state or civilized society. He reiterated that the State has a constitutional and legal responsibility to safeguard the lives and property of its citizens, and added that the obligation would be fulfilled in all circumstances.
When addressing the issue of missing persons, he pointed out that the phenomenon was not limited only to Baluchistan, but also existed in other provinces and in several countries around the world.
However, he expressed concern about the prevailing trend in the country at leveling accusations against state institutions without concrete evidence.
