Islamabad:
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) eliminated on Saturday 19 complaints filed against several High and Apex Court judges under article 209. It also decided to defer the procedures in five other complaints filed by different individuals.
The SJC, the Constitutional Forum that can hold the judges of the Superior Court, met in the Supreme Court of Islamabad under the presidency of the president of the president of Pakistan (CJP), Yahya Afridi.
SC Munib Akhtar judge, the Superior Court of Lahore (LHC), president of the Supreme Court Aalia Neelum and the Superior Court of Sindh (SHC), President of the Court Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffa attended the meeting. The senior judge of SC Puisne, Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, also participated in the meeting through the video link.
According to the sources, the Council deliberated with the suggestion of CJP Afridi to announce names of the judges against which the complaints were eliminated. The SJC then decided to maintain those confidential names.
The press release of the Supreme Court also did not specify what to judge the five deferred complaints are against, as well as the nature of the 19 complaints resolved.
The Council also approved the proposed draft of the rules of the Supreme Judicial Council Secretariat 2025. However, it decided that the amendments proposed to the investigation procedures and the Code of Conduct required a greater consideration of the legal and drafting perspectives.
Article 209 of the Constitution deals with the composition and functions of the SJC.
