Peshawar:

A tribal jirga organized by the Jamiat Ulema-E-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has expressed serious reservations on a committee formed to restore the traditional jirga system in the fused tribal districts, which were previously part of the tribal areas administered by the federal funds (Fata)

The Jirga held in Peshawar on Sunday also declared that a decision made with respect to the fused districts without public representation and adequate consultations would be unacceptable.

The Jirga led by Chief Jui-F Maulana Fazlur Rehman gathered the elders and tribal leaders of the fused districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

High -level leaders such as Maulana Jamaluddin, Maulana Abdul Rasheed, Malik Nasrullah Khan, Malik Shaheen, Malik Khan Marjan, Mufti Baitullah, Malik Nadir Manan, Abdul Khaliq Pathan, Mna Mufti Misbahuddin, Malik Shireen, and Dr GG Jamal went to Key

In a statement issued by the JUI-F, Jirga expressed concern about the growing incidents of terrorism and murders directed in the ancient tribal districts, and demanded urgent and effective measures to guarantee peace and protect lives and properties in the region.

The Jirga also rejected the recently proposed mines and mineral bill, which qualifies it with the interests of the tribal population and the country in general. He emphasized the need to re -involve tribal leaders and representatives of Pashtun to design a comprehensive and inclusive strategy for the future of the region.

The participants reiterated that no solution imposed would be acceptable in the tribal belt without the voice and will of the people.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed a special committee in the fused districts that on July 1 began deliberations about the rebirth of the traditional Jirga system in the old Fata. These districts, previously called agencies, merged with the KP in early 2018 to the 25th constitutional amendment.

During the July 1 meeting, the Minister of Border states and regions, Amir Muqam, as president of the Committee, emphasized the need for an alternative justice system rooted in tribal customs, but aligned with the constitutional principles.

The Committee also decided to form a subcommittee to write recommendations and agreed to celebrate its next session in the capital of the KP, Peshawar. The ANP and the PTI have already rejected the committee, which, according to them, does not represent the people of the fused districts.
