The MLB commissioner, Rob Manfred, has bothered baseball purists, but statistics show that their radical changes worked.
Before the 2023 season, MLB implemented a launch timer, expanded bases and change restrictions. As the average duration of the games has decreased more than half an hour since its peak of 3:11 in 2021, the assistance has increased.
Assistance has increased in each of the last two years. It was the first time since 2011 and 2012 that attendance grew in consecutive seasons.

The World Series (granted, two huge markets between the Yankees and the Dodgers) had their most spectators since 2017. But MLB on the Fox audience has increased by 10% compared to last year.
Manfred has had its fair share of questionable movements, especially letting Houston stars slide (on paper) for stealing signs in 2017 and calling the World Series trophy “a piece of metal”.
