Will Smith wants to honor his surprising ties with Wales in his own way.

In a recent talk in BBC Radio WalesThe 56 -year -old actor and musician discovered the multiple connections of his family with Wales and joked saying that he should consider changing his name.

During the interview, in which Smith seemed to promote his next tour of the United Kingdom for his new album Based on a real storyThe host, Lucy Owen, shared that Smith’s hometown of Wynnefield, Pennsylvania, bears the name of a Welshman, Dr. Thomas Wynne.

“So I’m Welsh! I’m Welsh, basically. That’s what we are saying,” said Smith laughs.

“Yes, Will! This is what I am trying to say. You are Welsh and we are claiming you,” Lucy replied.

Smith joked, “that could be my new name: Welsh Smith. I’m going to be Welsh Smith.”

Lucy pointed out another Smith link with Wales, mentions that Bryn Mawr, the city of Pennsylvania where Smith’s mother lives, is Welshman for “Big Hill.”

“Then ‘Mawr’ is ‘big’ and ‘Bryn’ means ‘Colina’. You live in Big Hill,” he explained.

Smith joked: “Big Hill! Big Will lives in Big Hill. This is madness! Big Hill. Big Will. Great yet.”
