Golf’s influencer Grant Horvat rejected the exemption of a sponsor to the Barracuda championship this week, and its reasoning revolves around its YouTube content.

Horvat is one of the most popular content creators in the YouTube golf space, it looks almost 1.4 million subscribers and plays with some of the best players in the world such as Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson, to name a few.

He was invited to play at Tahoe Mountain Club this week for the Barracuda Championship, but rejected the exemption of the sponsor because, as he explained, the tour did not allow his camera team inside the strings to filmed his rounds.

“The reason I will not play in a PGA Tour event is due to the rules and regulations on the rights of the media and filming during the game of the tournament of a PGA Tour event,” said Horvat in a video on his YouTube page. “Basically, that means that I would not be allowed to film my round during the tournament work.

“For me personally, make YouTube to make a living and want to document everything I do; this is the reason we received the invitation in the first place was by YouTube and for the incredible experiences that I can share for you.”

Horvat said he hopes to participate in a tour event in the future, but for now, he will not play with the rules in the place.

“I hope that at some point in the future we can play in a PGA Tour event … and document and film everything to share with you because I know what I would feel that you are doing it in a PGA Tour event and a child, I want that in the camera,” said Horvat in the video.

The PGA Tour may have seen the exemption of a sponsor for Horvat as a way of reaching a new demographic group. However, Horvat remained faithful to his followers, which includes almost one million on Instagram, and did not want to play if he did not involve cameras.

The barracuda is not a regular field of the PGA Tour, since the open championship, the last major of the year, is also played in the United Kingdom this weekend. Players like Scheffler, Rory Mcilroy and many more will not be available in California this week.

However, the PGA Tour has been inclined in the space of the creator of golf content in recent times. They had the “Creator Classic” tournaments, which were similar to LIV’s golf events.
