- Campfire Audio Relay is a USB-C DAC/AMP for headphones
- The Pro-Project E head box is a very small desktop headset amplifier
- Fire Audio Relay: $ 229 / £ 229 | Head box of project E: £ 89 (around $ 120)
Two of our favorite high fidelity companies have launched two very different headphones amplifiers. One is designed to live in your desk and the other in your pocket or bag, but both promise an important audio update for fans of the best cable headphones and the best cable headphones.
AMP are the Relay Audio Campfire, a Portable DAC/AMP headset with a USB-C connection; and the Pro-Get E head box, an amplifier of compact desktop headphones. Both are available from July 2025, and both cost less than one would expect.
Fire relay and pro-object head box: key features and prices
Let’s start with the most affordable torque of the torque, the head box of the project Project E. That is only £ 89 / € 119 (about $ 120 / AU $ 180), already a difference from price amplifiers similarly, does not use an integrated chipset for amplification: Pro-gect says that it has used carefully selected discrete components to deliver a sound that hits the sound of modest price of AMP.
The head box and delivers 665 miliwatios in 32 ohms, and is deliberately simple: it has a couple of 6.3 mm and a 3.5 mm headset in the front, which can be used simultaneously for a shared listening, and rca in the back. The OUT RCA is overlooked so that it can send unchanged audio to its high fidelity system. According to Pro-Gect, “it exceeds the stages of the headphones that are typically found in stereo amplifiers.”
The Audio Campfire relay is even smaller, and is built around the AKM 4493 Seq Dac chip that, according to Campfire, offers “the fair amount of color and a touch of a classical analog sound firm.” It has 4.5 mm outputs and 4.4 mm and USB-C balance for wide connectivity with phones, tablets and computers.
The relay has a selectable high / low gain, six filter modes and variable bits speeds of up to 32 bits / 768 kHz, and admits PCM and DSD playback.
The Audio Campfire relay is £ 229 / $ 299 (around Au $ 470) and if you are in London this weekend you can see it in Canjam London.
