Islamabad:
The professor of the Minister of Planning, Ahsan IQBAL, presided on Thursday a special meeting of the Chinese Investment Projects Committee to review the progress of several projects under the China-Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC).
The meeting, which was attended by senior officers of relevant ministries, focused on implementing decisions taken at the previous meeting and addressing the problems faced by Chinese investors.
Iqbal said that solving problems faced by Chinese investors was a priority for the government.
“The government undertakes to guarantee a safe and conducive environment for Chinese investment, which is crucial for bilateral cooperation in new sectors under phase II of CPEC,” he added.
The minister said that CPEC has the potential to play an important role in increasing regional cooperation, with the port of Gwadar ready to become a regional trade center.
He stressed the importance of protecting the interests and use of local fishermen in Gwadar, adding that the rhythm of water and energy projects in the area is accelerated.
The meeting directed that pending problems in projects built with Chinese investment will be resolved immediately.
Iqbal reiterated that increasing foreign investment and employment opportunities was a key part of the government’s manifesto.
“We are working tirelessly to ensure that CPEC projects are completed in time and that benefit the local population,” he said.
