As the snow approaches, it is critical that you and your vehicle prepare for safe travel.
Here’s a checklist for winter driving:
Make sure your car has essential cold-weather gear, such as food, water, warm clothing, a scratcher, blankets, medication, and a flashlight.
Check tire pressure, bring an extra tire, and use winter wiper fluid. Keep the fuel tank half full and make sure your headlights are working.
Avoid unnecessary trips in extreme conditions. Drive slowly for better traction and control. Maintain a safe distance (5-6 seconds) and avoid complete stops when possible.
Have your vehicle checked, monitor weather conditions, inform someone of your route, and avoid driving at night in the snow. Always stay in communication with your loved ones.
Keep your car as it provides shelter, insulate yourself with available materials, and save energy.
Mark the danger with a brightly colored cloth and avoid running the engine for too long to save fuel. Also, make sure the tailpipe is clear to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.
