  • Rubina Naz is named after the women’s seat; Swati for the Technocrat slot.

The Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will take place without a contest after Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) formally approved their list of candidates, confirming the names ended by the founder of the Imran Khan party.

PTI’s political committee met on Friday and supported the same nominees previously proposed by the Parliamentary Board of the party.

The measure clears the way for a soft and opposition choice in the province, after a broader understanding between the provincial government and the opposition.

According to the official statement, PTI has presented Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Mirza Khan Afridi and Pir Noorul Haq Qadri for general seats.

Rubina Naz will play the female seat, while Azam Khan Swati has been nominated for Technocrat slot. Mishaal Yousafzai will be the candidate for the seat that is vacant by Sania Nishtar.

The Committee also confirmed that PTI dissident members who had initially submitted nomination documents for the Senate elections agreed to retire.

Early in the day, the unhappy candidates held two separate meetings with KP’s prime minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, but, according to the reports, they refused to make a side until a final decision of the Political Committee arose.

Last week, the government and opposition of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reached an agreement on the celebration of inconteted Senate elections based on a formula of sharing seats 5/6.

According to the agreement, PTI will ensure six seats, while the opposition will take five.

With both sides now aligned and the internal disputes of PTI resolved, the province is established for a rare choice of the Senate without opposition.
